The Korean War was primarily a battle between North and South Korea. The North backed by Communist a Chinese forces, and the South supported by the UN. It began when North Korean Forces crossed the 38th Parallel and attacked the South. The UN took a “police action” against the North, sending forces to back the South, the vast majority of which were American soldiers. The North was pushed up nearly to the border of China, at which point the Chinese intervened and drove UN forces back to the 38th Parallel. Though the war ended exactly where it started, it was considered a victory for the containment of Communism.
